Antrim Town Library

Antrim Town Library

T & A Kernoghan in conjunction with Libraries NI have successfully completed the construction of this new library in the centre of Antrim town.

The centrally located position within the commercial heart of the town meant that logistical aspects regarding transportation of plant and bulky materials was an aspect of the scheme that would require careful planning.

Consultation with local traders was key to this with the success of this contributing to site achieving a score of 32 under the considerate constructor scheme.

The design is of a high specification and includes features such as Aerlolite cladding, Terracotta tile cladding, folding partitions and solid oak flooring. As well as impressive aesthetic aspects of the design there are a number of sustainable features such as;-

- Installation of a rain harvesting tank with a capacity of 30,000 litres.

- Bat and swift boxes on the external cladding.

This project was shortlisted as a finalist in the Education Infrastructure Category in the annual Construction Employers Federation awards 2010.
