University of Ulster - Refurbishment of MS Building, Magee
The Refurbishment of the MS Building at Magee Campus was successfully delivered on budget and to a strict construction programme. In order to meet client requirements this project was fast tracked and therefore works were programmed on the basis of a 7 day working week with the site operating each day from 7am – 7pm.
The refurbishment which included a complete change of use to the building encompassing remodelling of internal open plan office accommodation to singular office cells. There was also a complete upgrade of all finishes to include, walls, floors and ceilings along with the installation of specialist computer flooring. Elements of the refurbishment which related to improved access for the disabled included widening of door openings and automation of doors including energised closers.
A high spec finish was required on this particular project as this building was to be used as a research facility by the Robotics Department. Aspects of the installation therefore included computer flooring, rooms internally cladded with stainless steel, audio visual equipment etc. The Site Management Team liaised on a daily basis with a representative from the University to ensure complete segregation of the refurbishment works from the day to day activities of the college staff and end users. The sequence of works was discussed and agreed in advance to ensure minimal disruption to college operations.
