Social Housing
Belfast Road, Bangor
This project required the construction of 28no 2 bedroom ‘category 1’ and ‘general needs’ apartments for Helm Housing Association. The site, a previous petrol forecourt, is located on the outskirts of Bangor town centre on the main Bangor to Belfast Road. All apartments were contained within a 5 storey concrete frame and this choice of structure was dictated by the restricted site size and incorporated an underground car park.
As well as the limited space around the site other challenges were also presented by its location:
•A railway track to immediate rear of the site boundary
•A overhead power cable running along the front boundary of the site
•A single point of access / egress which was on to one of the busiest arterial routes in and out of Bangor town centre.
Having identified these obstacles at tender stage our Contracts Team were in a position to review and assess suitable methodologies at an early stage so that upon appointment technical meetings could be held with the relevant stakeholders such the Client, CDM Co-Coordinator, Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) and Northern Ireland Railway (NIR) so that our recommendations could be presented.
