Social Housing
Dairy Court, Falls Rd, Belfast
This project involved the regeneration of a brownfield site resulting in the construction of 6no new 2 bedroom apartments for Oaklee Homes. The project was located off the Falls Road in West Belfast. The size of the site determined that the only way to provide the required number of units was in one single building therefore all apartments were formed within a 3 storey frame constructed using traditional methods of block work and pre-cast floor slabs.
As in similar projects the greatest challenge was presented by the physical properties of the site and not the construction of the building itself in terms of close proximity to existing commercial and residential premises and limited space around the new structure. This meant that the close co-operation with nearby residents was essential in order to minimise disruption.
To ensure that this was achieve T & A Kernoghan arranged for regular mechanical road sweeping and manual site tidy ups. As access was limited a high level of pre-planning had to be adopted by our contracts team to ensure that deliveries to site did not coincide with peak times such as morning rush hour.
Dairy Court has been awarded overall Winner in the Social Housing Category in the annual Construction Employers Federation Awards 2010.
