Carrick Milestone Petrol Station
This project involved the demolition of an existing facility belonging to the Henderson Group and construction of new petrol forecourt and 4500 square feet of retail space. Improvement to traffic flow was also to be achieved by repositioning the points of access and egress and by formation of a new car park to generate 30 spaces. The site in question was very limited in space and therefore a number of challenges that had to be overcome from the outset;
• Formation of the car park had to be programmed to make allowance for a number of site services ground services had to be allowed for such as pipe work coming from the petrol tanks and power and water supplies to the car washes.
• Limited space would mean that the final formation and finishing of the car park would have to be done in phases as access for construction site / traffic had to be maintained in order to ensure that programmed progress was not affected.
• The site was located on the Middle Road in Carrickfergus, which is a busy commuter route in and out of the town, minimising traffic disruption needed to be a priority while forming new access and egress points.
Through a great deal of forward planning by our contracts team, risk awareness and management and regular meetings with sub-contractors and in the case of the access/egress works, the Roads Service, meant that the project was successfully completed within budget and programme.
