Musgrave Park Hospital - Refurbisment of McKinney House,
The refurbishment of McKinney House located within Musgrave Hospital was successfully delivered on budget and to a strict construction programme to the satisfaction of Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and WH Stephens who were responsible for design and commercial aspects of the project. The existing six storey building which had been vacant since 1960 had previously been used as administration offices and remained fully functioning throughout the contract period.
Undertaking construction works above the occupied floors required careful planning as consideration had to be given to the health and safety aspects of working at height and the safety and welfare of staff and pedestrians accessing the ground and first floor.
The Site Management Team liaised on a daily basis with a representative from the Trust to ensure complete segregation of the refurbishment works from the day to day activities of the administrative staff and end users. The sequence of works was discussed and agreed in advance to ensure minimal disruption.
Close co-ordination of sub-contractors was also required to ensure areas of work were clearly understood, that unauthorised areas were clearly identified and that interfaces between multiple sub-contractors were agreed and programmed accordingly.
